SEEKING
Seeking AEA or non-AEA Stage Manager (SM) for a workshop of a new ensemble-devised, physical theatre performance. Per the Equity Showcase Code, the Stage Manager shall be expected to perform at least the following duties:
(A) Be responsible for the calling of all rehearsals scheduled by the director in accordance with the rules and regulations of AEA.
(B) Assemble and maintain the promptbook, which is defined as the accurate playing text of stage business, together with such cue sheets, plots, and daily records, as are necessary for the actual technical and artistic operation of the production.
(C) Be the executive instrument in the technical running of each performance, maintaining discipline during rehearsal and performance, as provided in the Rules of AEA.
ABOUT THE SHOW
In the surrealist, avante-garde spirit of Japanese Butoh Dance, two consummate physical theatre artists and founding members of The Ume Group, Jordan Rosin (USA) and Yokko (USA/Japan) present a moving collage of ritual movement, monologue, clowning, and found object puppetry exploring time, generation, mortality, and parenthood, all set to a soundtrack of experimental music and community interviews mixed through machine learning body interfaces by performance artist and composer Kite (Oglála Lakȟóta). Thematically, PASSING draws inspiration from the creators’ own histories of “passing:” Yokko’s experience of their mothers’ passing, the passing of know-how from Jordan to their new child.
PASSING is a community-driven project created with and for parents, teachers, immigrants, queer folx, people who have lost family and/or who are confronting the passage of time.
The Ume Group’s PASSING is a recipient of the New England Foundation for the Arts National Theatre Project Artist Development Award.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Past experience as a Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, or Production Assistant or a combination of education and personal experience necessary to perform the basic requirements of the role.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Past experience working as a Stage Manager under an Equity Showcase Code.
- Past experience or education in devised or ensemble-generated original works.
- Past experience or education in physical theatre, dance, puppetry, acrobatics, or clown.

SEEKING
Seeking non-union Production Assistant (PA) for a workshop of a new ensemble-devised, physical theatre performance. The PA may be responsible for the following duties:
(A) Assisting with the building, focusing, operating, and/or shopping for lights, sound, scenery, props, and wardrobe, etc.
(B) Daily set-up and tear-down of the rehearsal / performance space.
(C) Arranging for the printing / pick-up of programs, playbills and other marketing items.
(D) Taking notes, photographs, videos, and other documentation necessary to support the devising process.
(E) Managing the “Front of House” during performance by checking in audience members and assisting with seating. (All tickets are free.)
(F) Attending all rehearsal, load-in, strike, and performance calls.
(G) Other duties, as assigned.

- Past experience or education in devised or ensemble-generated original works.

SEEKING
Seeking a collaborative Dramaturg to support the first-phase of development for a new ensemble-devised, interview-based physical theatre performance from The Ume Group. The Dramaturg shall be responsible for the following duties:
(A) Attending at least half of all rehearsals during the 1.5 week-long residency in New York City, November 6 – 16.
(B) Facilitating a post-show feedback session.
(C) Giving notes, constructive criticism, opinions, and ideas to support the development of the work.
(D) Referring the creators to relevant outside resources to support the development of the work.
(E) Reviewing found audio, interview recordings, and other source materials.
(F) Assisting the creative team in conducting interviews and/or copy-editing computer-generated transcripts of community interviews (optional).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Past experience supporting the creation of original, devised / ensemble-generated works as either a dramaturg, playwright, actor, director, deviser, or designer.
- One or more lived or learned cultural competencies relevant to the show.
- Local to NYC and/or able to provide own travel and accommodations for the 1.5 week-long residency.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with or experience utilizing Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process.
- Experience with consent-based, trauma-informed, non-violent, antiracist, and/or anti-oppressive practices.
- Past experience or education in docu-drama, interview-based theatre, physical theatre, butoh dance, dance, puppetry, acrobatics, or clown.
- Interest or appreciation for The Ume Group’s Core Principles of “Always Learnings, Teaching, Creating & Performing”, “Rotation of Roles”, “Open Training”, “Play”, “Ritual / Ceremony”, and “Hybridity.”
